Le Challenger

Golf Le Challenger opened in June 2002 and was built for the real estate wing of Bombardier (Bombardier Immobilier) on the old Canadair runway in St. Laurent Québec.

The initial stages involved ripping up the tarmac before beginning construction. It was dead flat from one end to the other, so we brought in close to 1,000,000 m3 of fill material to create the undulating layout.  It has a links theme to it, as there were no trees, we used extensive bunkering and fescue to give the course its character and challenge. One will find some imposing pot bunkers, as well as, many elevated tees.  Some as high as 10m, all artificially created.  As well timber kick walls have been placed in several bunkers, and there are some stone walls that have been recreated to replicate the ones found in Scotland that were built to keep the sheep from straying too far.  It has become one of the most interesting and enjoyable courses to play in the Montreal area.

It was built to spur on the surrounding housing development and has been very successful in that regard, almost too well, as the land for the golf course has now become so valuable that the developers are now planning to slowly develop some of the course itself into more housing.
